HAZARDOUS-AREA MATERIAL HANDLING
Explosion-Proof Crane Systems
Project-Specific Lifting Solutions for Classified Hazardous Areas
Guanhui develops explosion-proof crane systems for industrial environments where flammable gases, vapors or combustible dusts may create a hazardous atmosphere.
The crane structure, explosion-proof electric wire rope hoist, travel drives, electrical equipment, controls and protection measures are configured according to the confirmed hazardous-area classification and project requirements.
Final equipment selection requires information about the hazardous medium, area classification, gas or dust group, temperature class, ambient conditions and applicable standards.
HAZARDOUS-AREA DATA REQUIRED
- Gas, vapor or combustible dust
- Zone or division classification
- Gas group or dust group
- Temperature class
- Ambient and process conditions

HAZARDOUS-AREA ENGINEERING
The Crane Must Match the Actual Hazardous-Area Classification
An explosion-proof crane cannot be selected only from lifting capacity and span. The complete equipment configuration must be reviewed against the hazardous medium, classified area, ignition risk, temperature limits and applicable project requirements.
The official hazardous-area classification should be provided by the customer, plant owner or responsible engineering organization.
01 · HAZARDOUS MEDIUM
Gas, vapor and combustible-dust environments require different equipment-selection and protection considerations.
02 · AREA CLASSIFICATION
The zone or division identifies the expected presence and duration of a hazardous atmosphere.
03 · GROUP AND TEMPERATURE
Gas or dust grouping and temperature limits influence the required equipment marking and permitted surface temperature.
04 · SITE CONDITIONS
Temperature, humidity, corrosion, dust accumulation and indoor or outdoor installation affect the final configuration.
SYSTEM-LEVEL EXPLOSION PROTECTION
Explosion-Proof Configuration Across the Complete Crane System
The explosion-protection concept must cover the relevant mechanical and electrical equipment within the confirmed hazardous area.
The electric wire rope hoist, motors, brakes, travel drives, enclosures, cable systems, controls, limit devices and warning equipment are selected according to the agreed protection requirements and equipment scope.
- Explosion-proof electric wire rope hoist
- Hazardous-area motors and braking systems
- Project-specific electrical enclosures and controls
- Protected crane and trolley travel drives
- Suitable cable and power-supply arrangements
- Travel, lifting-limit and warning functions
- Grounding and bonding provisions according to scope
- Environmental and corrosion protection where required
HAZARDOUS-AREA APPLICATIONS
Crane Systems for Classified Industrial Environments
Explosion-proof crane systems may be considered for facilities where flammable gases, vapors or combustible dusts can create a classified hazardous area.
The final crane and protection configuration must be confirmed for the specific process, hazardous medium and site classification.
- Chemical Processing
- Petrochemical Facilities
- Solvent Handling Areas
- Hazardous Material Storage
- Combustible-Dust Processing
COMPLIANCE AND DOCUMENTATION
Certification and Documentation Defined by the Project
Explosion-proof equipment requirements vary by country, project location, hazardous-area classification and applicable standard. Required certificates, markings, drawings, inspection records and technical documents should be defined before order confirmation.
- Hazardous-area classification documents
- Required equipment certification
- Crane and electrical drawings
- Equipment nameplates and markings
- Inspection and test documentation
- Operation and maintenance documentation
PROJECT SELECTION GUIDANCE
Confirm the Hazardous-Area Data Before Crane Selection
EXPLOSION-PROOF CONFIGURATION MAY BE REQUIRED WHEN:
- The working area has an official hazardous-area classification
- Flammable gases, vapors or combustible dusts may be present
- Project documents specify explosion-protected lifting equipment
- The crane operates within the classified area
- Equipment marking and certification requirements are defined
DO NOT SELECT THE CRANE UNTIL:
- The hazardous medium has been identified
- The zone or division has been confirmed
- The gas or dust group is known
- The temperature class has been specified
- The applicable standard and certification scope are confirmed
